Blackboard integration with POK LTI

POK Proof of Knowledge connects to Blackboard through LTI 1.3, so you can issue credentials to your students directly from each course. This guide walks you through the full setup: registering the tool in Blackboard, finishing the integration in POK, adding credential content to a course, and tracking issuance for every student.

Connect POK to Blackboard​

1. Start the integration from POK​

  1. Go to the Integrations section in your POK dashboard.
  2. In the list of available platforms, select Blackboard.
  3. Enter an identifying name for the integration (for example, "Blackboard POK Integration 2025").
  4. Copy the API Client ID shown on screen. You will need it in the next step.

2. Register the tool in Blackboard​

  1. Log in to Blackboard as an administrator.
  2. Go to the Admin section.
  3. In the Integrations block, click LTI Tool Providers.
  4. Open the Register LTI 1.3/Advantage Tool tab.
  5. Paste the Client ID you copied from POK.
  6. Click Submit to continue.

3. Configure the registered tool​

Once the tool is registered, Blackboard opens the configuration form (Tool Status):

  1. Scroll down to the Institution Policies section.
  2. Enable the following options:
    • Role in course
    • Name
    • Email address
  3. Make sure the radio buttons are set to YES for:
    • Allow grade service access
    • Allow membership service access
  4. Click Submit to save the configuration.

4. Finish the integration in POK​

  1. Return to the tool in Blackboard and copy the Default Deployment ID that was generated when you registered it.
  2. Go back to the integration screen in POK.
  3. Paste the Deployment ID into the corresponding field.
  4. Click Confirm to save and complete the integration.

The integration is now active, and you can start issuing POK credentials directly from your Blackboard courses.

Add the Course Level view​

Once the external tool is installed in Blackboard, follow these steps to set up the Course Level view:

  1. Open the LTI configuration:
    • Go to Administrator > Panel LTI Tool Providers.
    • Find the POK installation.
    • Select Manage Placements.
  2. Click the button to create a new placement.
  3. Configure the main settings:
    • Name: enter a descriptive name that identifies the Course Level link (for example, "Course Level" or "Course View").
    • Handle: enter pok-dashboard.
    • Target Link URI: copy and paste https://lti.pok.tech/lti/course-level.
  4. Configure access permissions. In Availability, check Allow student access for the following options:
    • Deep Linking content tool
    • Course tool
  5. Save your changes to complete the setup.

With this placement in place, both students and instructors can open the Course Level view directly from Blackboard.

Blackboard Ultra​

If your institution uses Blackboard Ultra, one additional step is required after you finish the integration in POK (section 4 above): install POK Credentials in your Blackboard Ultra environment by configuring the LTI Tool Provider.

If you do not use Blackboard Ultra, skip ahead to the next section, Configure the POK Credential content in the course.

Configure the POK Credential content in the course​

Once the integration is complete, you can add POK content to your Blackboard courses to issue credentials to students.

1. Add the content to the course​

  1. Open the course where you want to add the credential.
  2. In the left-hand menu, click Content.
  3. Inside the content section, open the Build Content tab.
  4. From the dropdown list, select POK Credential.

2. Configure the created content​

After selecting the option, fill in the following fields to define how the content appears to students:

  • Name: enter a title that clearly identifies the credential.
  • Description: add a short description of what the credential is or represents.
  • Click Submit to save the content to the course.

Content restrictions​

You can set conditions that control access to the credential content within the course:

  • Date restriction. From the content settings, define an availability date. The content stays locked until that date is reached.
  • Adaptive Release restriction. To add academic conditions:
    1. In the course Content section, locate the POK Credential content you created.
    2. Click the action arrow next to the content item.
    3. In the dropdown list, select Adaptive Release.
    4. Add the access conditions you need, such as:
      • A minimum course grade.
      • A specific result from a test within the course.

With these conditions, the content stays locked until the student meets the academic requirements. Once they do, they can access the content and claim their credential.

3. Configure credential issuance​

  1. Once the content is saved, click it to open the LTI configuration.
  2. A form opens where you configure the following details:
    • Select the credential design.
    • Link a custom page and a learning path (optional).
    • Define whether the credential has an expiration date.
    • Map the design's custom attributes to the student data available in Blackboard.
    • Choose the type of credential (basic or blockchain).
    • Select the email language students will receive.
  3. Click Save Configuration to apply the changes.

From this point on, the credential is ready to be generated and issued to students according to the conditions you set.

View the credential list​

Once a credential is configured in your course, you can check its status and, if needed, edit its configuration. After saving a credential, you can open a list that shows the status for each student.

To open it, click the credential item inside the course module. From there you can view and manage its issuance status.

What the statuses mean​

  • Pending: the credential has not yet been generated or sent to the student.
  • Sent: the credential was generated and the student received an email with the acceptance link.
  • Accepted: the student accepted the credential from the email, and it has been issued successfully.

Edit a credential​

To change the information of a credential that is already configured, use the Configure Issuance button. You can update the data visible on the credential.

Teacher and admin view: Course Level​

To open the Course Level view, the teacher or admin must:

  1. Go to the left-hand course menu.
  2. Select the Tools section.
  3. Find and click the placement created for the course-level view (for example, "Course Level").

What the teacher sees​

The Course Level link opens a dashboard with all the credentials and certificates available in the course. It shows:

  • Invited Credentials: total invitations sent to students.
  • Assigned Credentials: total credentials completed and awarded.
  • Certificate List: each credential with its automation status and the number of enrolled students.
  • Details for each credential: links, invitation status, and how many students have completed it.

What it is for​

This dashboard lets the teacher or admin:

  • Monitor credential progress in real time.
  • Manage certificates from a single place without leaving Blackboard.
  • Verify credential automation.
  • Analyze student participation for each certificate.
  • Quickly access the details and links for each credential.
